Community Commitment to Inspired Students
and Quality Education
I am excited to continue my time as the Principal at Hume Lake Charter School this year and loving the opportunity to work alongside the staff at such an amazing school. I have a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University and an Administrative Services Credential from National University. Prior to my time at HLCS, I spent 16 years teaching a variety of subjects in a variety of school settings. I look forward to an amazing year and many successful years to come!
I have had the privilege of working at Hume Lake Charter School for 17 years and am so grateful to work along side of students and families as the School Counselor and Vice Principal. I earned my Master’s in Education and Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential through Point Loma Nazarene University. My family and I have been a part of the Hume Lake community for 23 amazing years and when we enjoy going on outdoor adventures together!
Hume Lake Charter School has been apart of my family’s life since 2007. We have seen the gift of this school’s intentionality played out year after year. I am so grateful to be involved with HLCS.
I have always been a teacher at heart, and after a 17-year career in corporate training and development, I found my teaching “happy place” in PK-12 education. I received a B.S. in Elementary Education, M.S. in Instructional Technology, and teaching credential through Grand Canyon University, and I have served in various classroom roles since 2017. I am thrilled to be continuing my journey as an educator and learning partner with the students and families at HLCS.
After graduating with a BA in Liberal Studies and teaching credential from Fresno Pacific University, I started my teaching in Fresno, originally in Kindergarten. I ended up landing in junior high for the bulk of my teaching career. After short stints in high school and K-2, I’m now back in the middle grades, enjoying novels, algebra, and sarcastic jokes.
I’ve been teaching since 2004, mostly in the upper elementary grades. My goal as a teacher is to create a joy filled classroom where students are known, where they are motivated to work-hard and give their best effort each day.
Changing professional gears in my forties, I obtained my B.A. in History for secondary education from Grand Canyon University in 2019 and jumped right into teaching here at Hume Lake. I love history and enjoy the challenge of bridging the gap between students’ present environment and the ideas and events of the past which have shaped our world today. When I’m not at work (and sometimes when I am but don’t tell my boss) I enjoy a good Dodger baseball game and spending time with the family.
Originally from Dallas Texas, we moved to Illinois during my high school years. I enlisted in the Navy, which eventually brought me out to San Diego, Ca. I served with Special Boat Team 12 until December of 2003. Around that time I had met my wife Kristi at our church, and we were eventually married in 2005. I received my master in Special Education and began teaching in San Diego in 2009. We have two kids, Deacon (11) and Lyndie (9). Our family loves adventures and the outdoors.
