I am excited to begin my time as the Principal at Hume Lake Charter School this year and loving the opportunity to work alongside the staff at such an amazing school. I have a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University and an Administrative Services Credential from National University. Prior to my time at HLCS, I spent 16 years teaching a variety of subjects in a variety of school settings. I look forward to and amazing year and many successful years to come!
Jen Nelson has been the School Counselor at Hume Lake Charter School for over 10 years and thoroughly enjoys working alongside of students in this position. She has a Master’s in Education and Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Prior to her time at HLCS, she worked as an administrator at Point Loma Nazarene University. She and her family have been a part of the Hume community for 19 years.
Hume Lake Charter School has been apart of my family’s life since 2007. We have seen the gift of this school’s intentionality played out year after year. I am so grateful to be involved with HLCS.
From the time I was a teenager, I knew I wanted to be a teacher! I completed my undergraduate work at Point Loma Nazarene University and my graduate work at George Fox University, earning an MA in Teaching. My experience ranges from large public schools both in California and out of state to the small public charter school I have been a part of since 2012; Hume Lake Charter. If I’m not at school, you might find me spending time with my family, reading a book, or gardening in my greenhouse.
After graduating from Biola University with a B.A. in Liberal Studies, Elementary Education and an M.A. in Education, I began my teaching career in Orange County. I taught third grade for five years before moving to Hume. I have been involved with Hume Lake Charter School in a variety of capacities since 2007. My favorite book is Miss Rumphius and my least favorite multiplication fact is 6 x 8.
I attended San Diego State University for my undergraduate degree, followed by the University of Redlands to complete my teaching credential. I have been teaching since 1995, with a break for a few years while my children were small. I have taught all grade levels from second grade through high school, but elementary ages are my favorite!
Alex Hamilton studied health science at California Baptist University and began his educational career during 2016 in Monterey, California after working as an EMT. There he taught chemistry and environmental science along the tranquil Central Californian coast. Since then, he has joined Hume Lake Charter School where he teaches high-school science and math. Alex is currently working on his master of arts in teaching science (5-12) through Western Governors University.
